Atex Line – Explosion-proof simple lift magnets of Kendrion

The explosion-proof simple lift magnets of the Atex Line from Kendrion are mainly used where sparking poses a significant safety risk. These explosion-hazardous areas with flammable gases and vapors are found in mining, refineries, oil platforms or other chemical plants.

This product line from Kendrion complies with the European ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU for equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. This was tested by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) or by IBExU (Institute for Safety Technology) according to EN 60079.

Ex magnets with ignition protection type “Increased Safety”, Ex “e”

The most important requirement for explosion-proof electromagnets is to prevent ignition of the explosive atmosphere in the application environment. This means that the magnet must neither reach temperatures above the temperature class of potentially occurring gases nor generate electrically or mechanically produced sparks.

All electric lift magnets that Kendrion offers for explosion protection meet the ignition protection type “Increased Safety”, Ex “e”. For this purpose, special design measures were taken to shield the coil inside the electromagnet from the external environment. Furthermore, the components of the magnet were designed for extremely high temperature resistance. Thus, the Ex magnets can be used in temperature class T4 (up to +135°C).

Atex Line – Lift magnets for explosion protection

Kendrion offers a wide portfolio of standard lift magnets with Ex design.

The electromagnetic actuators convince by:

– dynamic switching
– long service life

The ATEX lift magnets consist of a pot magnet and a connection housing, which provides a connection option for the protective conductor according to EN 60079.

Both the steel housing and the connection housing made of aluminum are designed with ignition protection type “e”. Versions from size 10 also feature a mounting base. The Ex magnets are suitable for use at an ambient temperature of -20°C to +40°C (for type 41 03E13K03 from -20°C to +35°C). The customer must operate the magnet depending on the rated current with a suitable upstream fuse or motor protection switch. In addition, a varistor must ensure that the switch-off voltage is not exceeded.

Devices of series 41 03E are simple lift magnets with mounting base specially designed for use in explosive atmospheres.

Explosion protection was approved with the EU type examination certificate IBExU 16 ATEX 1220 X from the Institute for Safety Technology in Freiburg.

Both connection and housing have protection class IP54.
